One Night Stand

Silverwashed under a summer moon
the river shines,
a mercury ribbon on its sojourn
to the sea.
I stand high on a hill,
baptized in the beauty of a silent -
yes, even holy - night.
No bird calls, but the water whispers
sweet words that seize my soul.
Though my heart is with the sea,
I surrender myself for just this moment
to the seduction of this freshwater suitor.
O Neptune! Forgive me,
I am starving for touch of a loving hand
and you are so far away.
