In the Blue Hour
It is l'heure bleue;
the pale sun is fading from the sky,
taking with it all the light
and whatever scanty warmth enrobed the day.
I sit ghostlike, caught in that nowhereland
not night-not day,
watching the sky dissolve
just as the colors of the flowers
prisoned on the table do,
blurring in the mystery of time.
That sweeping hand -
implacable, impartial, unseeing -
leaches life from everything;
all that once was vibrant will eventually be dead:
the day, the blooms and me.
Another day will dawn,
the flowers bud in spring;
no telling
if the stardust in my bones
will reappear.

A poignant look at where we are in life at this point of the aging scale. I have thought similar thoughts in the past, but we don't have family dinners like this all the time now. We are all scattered to the winds and will take part in a meal when visiting. Beautiful painting too.

Same here, Bunny, my mother, brothers and I are all within easy driving distance, but all but one of my many aunts and uncles are dead, and cousins are nationwide now. We still have a family reunion every July, and many do show up. Thanks so much.
