coming down
why so many are afraid to fly escapes me
it's almost a given that if you crash
it's all over
steel your mind to that and flying's easy
that sudden upward nosing
the loft of tons of steel holding our fragility
is freeing
being wrapped in clouds is a glorious gift
and gazing down through those slit windows
the view of life in miniature
gives perspective on how small
our constructs really are
in descent we reclaim the reality
to which we are bound
i gaze at rivers, roads and fields
as if my eyes were newly born
the view descending swallows me
it is a painting come to life
one i'm reluctant to step into
oh yes
flying's easy
it's the coming down
that's hard

Love the wave of golden amber hues that weave between the sky blue and the meadow green.
