Inner beauty is a lotus
tethered to the pond that is the soul,
its roots beneath the surface
holding fast to the essentials
that sustain it.
It cannot be bought or painted on
or ripped apart from its environs
and survive,
only discovered by one willing to explore
and also in that exploration vigilant,
looking not with one's outward eyes
but with the tender curling sensors
of the heart.
