Nonetheless

I lay in the lush loam of life,
luxuriating in the unaccustomed freedom
from accountability,
knowing that the respite
is but a fragile tear
in the iron gossamer of the everyday,
but at peace nonetheless.

I rest in the rosepetaled dawn,
reveling in the riot of tints
from Monet's palette streaking the horizon,
knowing I must soon arise
to fight on, fight on another day,
but at peace nonetheless.

I swim in the salt sea of time,
submerging my soul in the soft swirling
currents of safety,
knowing that someday this antediluvian sea
will evaporate and leave me a dry husk,
